Academic WorldQuest 2024

20 Apr 2024

Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) inspires high school students and teachers across the United States to embrace a culture of global engagement.

Nationwide, more than 40 local World Affairs Councils host community Academic WorldQuest competitions throughout the year, engaging over 3,000 students in schools across diverse geographic and economic lines as they vie for the ultimate prize: representing their communities at the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Academic WorldQuest National Competition in Washington, DC.

About Academic WorldQuest™

The World Affairs Councils of America’s flagship youth education program is a fun, fast-paced team competition for high school students. Academic WorldQuest™ tests players’ knowledge of current international politics, geography, global economics, history, and world cultures. Some 50 World Affairs Councils hold local Academic WorldQuest™ (AWQ) competitions for high school students in their communities. Since 2003, winning teams have traveled to Washington, DC, every April to vie for the national championship.

The National Competition – April 20, 2024

Winning teams are invited to represent their high school, city, and local Council during the national AWQ championship weekend, which includes the competition, unique programming planned to enhance the global education experience, and an opportunity to meet and engage with approximately 250 like-minded peers from around the United States.

Over 3,000 students compete in AWQ contests organized by 40+ World Affairs Councils hosts in their states. Typically, teams prepare in an after-school setting over the course of several months.
