Venezuela At A Crossroads: Domestic Challenges and Global Implications

Eduardo M. Paredes served as Special Envoy for the interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, who during the Venezuelan presidential crisis challenged Nicolás Maduro's presidency. The United States recognized Guaidó as 87the leader of Venezuela, as well as over 50 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Germany, Israel, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Maduro received the support of China, Cuba, Russia, and Turkey. Eduardo focused on representing President Maduro’s agenda with EU governments and policymakers and advising internal teams on strategic public policy issues. From February 2019 until 2022, Eduardo worked on building from scratch a coalition that delivered three EU Parliament Resolutions with more than 70% of the MEP votes, formal institutional recognition of the Office of the interim President and established and managed bilateral meetings with several heads of government.
Prior to this government relations role, Eduardo was General Manager for Latin America and Global Publishing Chief Strategy Officer at Wargaming, a global gaming company. He focused on deploying Wargaming’s games in Latin America. Previously, he served as an Associate at Xiaomi in Sao Paulo and as an Economist for Latin America in the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Eduardo holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, an MPA from Princeton School of Public and International Affairs and a dual Law JD & Economics Bachelor Degree from the Andres Bello University of Caracas. Eduardo was born in the United States and raised in Venezuela, speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese and is a dual citizen of the European Union and the United States. Eduardo was a social sciences assistant professor (Simon Bolivar University) and entrepreneur mentor, passionate about the European and LatAm tech and policy ecosystems, helping startups, and mentoring founders on scaling operations, international expansion and regulatory compliance
